WEISS/WEISSLICH 20

released November 23, 2020

|Music by Peter Ablinger
|Artwork by Dinis Cunha
|Cymbals, audio and mixing by Paulo Amendoeira

|A COLLECTION OF SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THIS PIECE, WITH VERY DIFFERENT CYMBALS, MALLETS, DYNAMIC LEVELS, RESONANCES AND DURATIONS|

This is an experience about sound by itself, on how to try to listen very deeply and an attempt to antagonize the fast and stimulant music that we're constantly listening to everywhere. It can be an experience in the percussive field too: showing the difficulties in performing an even roll and the attempt to control the sound through very precise and detailed dynamic and overtone control.

To play Weiss/Weisslich20 is to struggle with the seeming simplicity of the material a priori, since when starting to experiment with cymbals and mallets and listen to the acoustics of the room, the richness of the idea of a constant cymbal roll comes out.

Ascolta!

At first glance, it might seem unusual to bring together the music of all the composers featured on this album, given their admittedly distant compositional aesthetics.

The exercise of discovering common elements and connections between these works can be a difficult task, but it is a reflection of our aesthetic as a chamber group open to looking at different artistic fields.

Ascolta is an exercise in active listening for the audience. Living in a world in which we are increasingly challenged by music that comes to us "without asking permission to enter", this CD tends to counteract this practice, suggesting that listeners dedicate themselves to ascoltare (listening) consciously, without allowing themselves to surrender to the banality of passive listening.
